Web 2.0 and its opportunities impact an area of competitive intelligence. Very important are new forms of gathering information for CI purposes and rounds of Web 2.0 are structurally mentioned with examples from practice. Web 2.0 is quite good addition to information gathering from professional information sources.
Richard Papik is the director of the Institute of Information Studies and Librarianship (Faculty of Arts, Charles University, Prague) from October 2002. He started his teaching process at this institute in 1994. Before 1994 he worked as the online retrieval specialist, the reference services specialist, the research specialist, and the head of the department of external databases and deputy head of the department of , also information officer in an information brokering company in areas of scientific, technical, and business information (the company Medistyl till 2000). He works on projects in academic sector, also in business and industry research. His main topics of the interest: online retrieval methods, online information services, cognitive aspects of information science, and also business oriented discipline - competitive intelligence and knowledge management. 3 monographies in professional editions, cca 40 articles in serials and conferences proceedings. Foreign experiences in U.S. (1996 – research, 1998 – semestral teaching at the University of North Carolina, 2001 – granted research), Germany – the short term study program at the FIZ Karlsruhe in 1995), Great Britain – 2 short term study programs in 2003. Attenders of 7 large grants and projects, 4 projects as the head of research.
